The Institute of Technology was established on the basis of a long tradition of Hungarian technical and agritechnical higher education, with the establishment of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE) on 1 February 2021. Its legal predecessors include the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Szent István University (former Gödöllő University of Agricultural Sciences), the Institute of Institute of Agricultural Engineering of the National Agricultural Research and Innovation Centre, the Department of Agricultural Engineering of the Georgikon Campus (formerly Keszthely University of Agricultural Sciences) (Keszthely),  the Technical Department of the Buda Campus (formerly University of Horticulture) (Budapest), but the Institute is also supported by the staff of the Institute of Informatics of the Károly Róbert Campus (formerly Gyöngyös College) (Gyöngyös) as well as the technical informatics lecturers of the Kaposvár Campus (former University of Kaposvár).
Our traditional training programmes are complemented by a range of practice-oriented specialised training courses (professional engineering) and courses.

Graduate education programmes sponsored by the Institute are (MATE/TECH-INFO):

  • Mechanical Engineering (BSc, MSc)
  • Mechanical Engineer in the Agriculture and Food Industry (BSc, MSc)
  • Engineering Management (BSc, MSc)
  • Mechatronical Engineering (BSc)
  • Construction Engineering (MSc)
  • Software Information Technology (FSZ) (higher education vocational training)

The Institute has an outstanding teaching and research infrastructure, with laboratories for automotive technology, machinery manufacturing, materials science and mechatronics, energetics, machine structure, applied information systems. It is important for us to be able to organise the transfer of professional knowledge on the basis of a modern Knowledge Transfer Centre and our Institute gives also home for the AgIT Agri-Informatics Development Laboratory.

Managed by the Institute the journal Mezőgazdasági Technika (Agricultural Technology) and periodicals like Mechanical Engineering Letters and Hungarian Agricultural Engineering are published. The Institute of Technology is also home to the Museum of the History of Agricultural Tools and Machinery (Collection of the History of Machinery), the European Digital Innovation Hub and the Femtoscopy Laboratory.

MATE/TECH-INFO - Engineer for life!
