In addition to the development and investigation of agricultural engineering systems, the Institute’s research portfolio includes general mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, energy, mechatronics and IT programmes. An important task is to apply the capabilities of agricultural informatics and data science to the solution of practical problems. The Institute’s competitiveness is based on its unique infrastructure and human capacities. In the area of agroinformatics, the facilities are special and the staff combine agricultural (bio-systems engineering) and classical engineering and IT research capabilities. This is also unique internationally - especially when the support of partner institutions is taken into account.

Our strengths include excellent infrastructure, instrumentation, the combined cultivation of biological and engineering (informatics) disciplines, strong industrial (corporate) relationships. All this is complemented by an innovative, pro-active tender oriented attitude and a range of interests beyond classical agricultural processes (e.g. security industry, electronics, automotive, etc.).

Our main research areas are:

  • Agricultural IT, technical/applied IT: sensor technology, 4G based communication
  • Applications of artificial intelligence in agriculture
  • Renewable energy
  • Complex automotive technology research: emission-driven vehicle sustainment, off-road driving theory, soil mechanics research
  • Agricultural and general mechanism
  • Advanced manufacturing processes, automation, tribology and material testing
  • Applied Engineering Economics and Management
  • Femtoscopy
